EXPERIENCE
Systems Administrator / Application Programmer (2000 - Present) RS Information Systems, Inc. / NASA Glenn Research Center
  • Setup and maintained numerous top ten websites at the NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC). Installed and configured Apache, SSL, WebDAV, virtual servers, and network devices in Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Managed a load balanced production server environment across two servers. This also included one development server, one database server, and two internal web servers, one running Linux and the other running Windows 2003 Server with Internet Information Services.
  • Designed, developed, and implemented a central MySQL database server used by the NASA Aeronautics’ programs for customer relationship management. This project included installation of hardware, RAID devices, network implementation, and Linux installation and configuration while complying with strict government regulations on securing data. Developed a PHP front-end to easily access the system.
  • Implemented Veritas Netbackup as a central backup solution for all responsible (7) servers using Sun Solaris and a tape library. This system was eventually migrated to Linux.
  • Configured a Samba SMB file server for the NASA GRC aeronautics programs. Implemented a 1TB RAID5 array and configured Samba to authenticate users against the GRC Windows domain using SuSE Enterprise Linux.
  • Developed system security plans and standard system configurations based on the NASA enforced guidelines provided by the Center for Internet Security.
  • Implemented Nagios as a system and network monitoring tool. This allowed for maximum server uptime as all machines and services were constantly monitored.
  • Created an online system for securely transferring large files between NASA GRC and the world. Utilizing PHP, OpenSSL, Apache, and MySQL, documents are captured, encrypted, stored, decrypted, and sent.
  • Developed an online event registration system for NASA sponsored conferences, meetings, and forums. This web application was developed using PHP and MySQL and is currently used agency-wide and has streamlined web registrations. It has been award winning and highly successful.
